Commemorative Stamp Unveiled to Honor 25 Years of Mundra Port

Maritime News India : Ahmedabad, 9 October 2024Mundra Port, India’s largest commercial port and a flagship of the Adani Group, has been honored with a special commemorative stamp celebrating its 25-year journey. The stamp was released on World Post Day, symbolizing the port’s transformation into a vital hub of maritime and economic growth in India.

A Milestone in Maritime History

The commemorative stamp was unveiled by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, alongside prominent figures including Adani Enterprises Managing Director Rajesh Adani and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Managing Director Karan Adani. The event also saw the participation of Gujarat Circle Chief Postmaster General Ganesh V. Sawaleshwarkar and HQ Region Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav.

From Barren Marsh to Global Hub

Mundra Port’s remarkable evolution from a barren marshland to a global shipping powerhouse has significantly impacted India’s economy. Under the visionary leadership of Gautam Adani, the port has transformed into a crucial gateway for trade, connecting India to international markets while serving a substantial portion of the nation’s hinterland.

Since its inception in 1998, Mundra Port has contributed over INR 2.25 lakh crore to the state and national exchequer, created more than 7.5 crore man-days of employment, and attracted investments exceeding INR 70,000 crore. Today, it handles nearly 11% of India’s maritime cargo and a staggering 33% of the nation’s container traffic.

Commitment to Community and Development

Karan Adani remarked, “This commemorative stamp represents not just the legacy of Mundra Port but also our partnership of trust with the people of Gujarat and the supportive policies of the state government.” He highlighted the port’s role in driving economic development and creating opportunities, while also emphasizing the commitment to community support initiatives that have benefited over 3.5 lakh people across 61 villages through the Adani Foundation.

Celebrating Progress with Unique Artistry

The commemorative stamp, titled “25 Years of Progress – Mundra Port,” showcases a visual narrative of the port’s transformation. Designed in collaboration with India Post, the stamp sheet contains 12 stamps and has been printed in a limited run of 5,000 sheets (60,000 stamps total) at the Security Printing Press in Hyderabad. The stamps will be available for purchase through India Post’s ePortal.

Alongside the stamp, India Post introduced a special cover and stamp cancellation process to further commemorate this milestone. A copy of the stamp sheet will also find a permanent home at the National Philatelic Museum in New Delhi, ensuring that this significant achievement in India’s maritime history is remembered for years to come.
