Maritime News India : Vikarabad, Telangana – On October 15, 2024, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Very Low Frequency (VLF) Station at Damagundam Reserve Forest in Vikarabad, Telangana. This facility, which spans 2,900 acres and is being developed at a cost of Rs 3,200 crore, aims to enhance the Indian Navy’s operational readiness and secure communication capabilities.

During the ceremony, Singh articulated the critical role of effective communication in modern warfare, stating, “Effective coordination between men and machines is crucial in view of the evolving methods of warfare.” The new VLF Station will facilitate reliable communication between naval vessels and command centers, ensuring real-time data transmission essential for decision-making during operations.

Strengthening Maritime Security

Rajnath Singh underscored the importance of maritime security, especially in the context of India’s interests in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). He described the Indian Navy as “the biggest guarantee of peace” in this area, emphasizing that collaborative efforts among nations are necessary to maintain stability. “Maritime security is a collective effort; all friendly countries must work together,” he asserted, highlighting India’s commitment to unity over division.

Economic Growth and Environmental Responsibility

In addition to bolstering military capabilities, the VLF Station is expected to create job opportunities for local communities. Singh noted that skilled and unskilled workers from the surrounding areas would benefit from employment during the construction phase and beyond. He reassured the public that environmental considerations are a priority, stating that the project would comply with all ecological regulations and ensure the rehabilitation of affected individuals if necessary.

A Vision for the Future

The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, joined Singh in celebrating the project’s potential to enhance the Navy’s communication network across oceans, ensuring seamless interaction with submarines and improving overall effectiveness.

Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, honoring his contributions to India’s defense sector. “Dr. Kalam’s legacy inspires us to innovate and advance our military capabilities,” he said.

 

As India prepares to secure its maritime interests and establish itself as a dominant force in the Indo-Pacific, the inauguration of the VLF Station marks a strategic leap forward in the nation’s defense infrastructure, promising greater security and cooperation in the region.
