Maritime News India Paradip, Odisha, February 14, 2026: Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has recorded its highest-ever single-day thermal coal unloading performance, reinforcing its role as a key logistics backbone in India’s energy supply chain.
On February 14, the port handled an unprecedented 47 railway rakes of thermal coal in a single day — comprising 41 BOBRN (Bogie Open Bottom Rapid Discharge) rakes and six BOXN (Bogie Open High-Sided) rakes.
The achievement marks a significant operational milestone for the eastern coast major port, reflecting enhanced coordination between marine, rail, and cargo handling teams.
Chairman Shri P. L. Haranadh credited the accomplishment to disciplined execution and sustained operational optimisation. He described the record as more than a statistical milestone, highlighting it as evidence of streamlined cargo handling systems, improved rake turnaround efficiency, and strengthened infrastructure capacity.
Paradip Port has been steadily upgrading its cargo evacuation mechanisms and terminal processes, enabling faster discharge cycles and minimising vessel and rail congestion. Thermal coal remains a critical commodity for India’s power generation sector, and such high-volume single-day performance strengthens the reliability of energy logistics during peak demand cycles.
With growing cargo volumes and infrastructure expansion underway, Paradip Port continues to consolidate its position as one of India’s most productive major ports, particularly in bulk cargo handling.
