Assam University Annual Festival 2024: A Vision for the Future

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, while attending the Assam University Annual Festival as the Chief Guest, emphasized the immense potential of the Indian youth (Yuva Shakti), women (Nari Shakti), and patriotism (Desh Bhakti) in transforming the country into a new Bharat. He called upon the students to equip themselves with specialized skills to tap into emerging opportunities, especially in India’s marine and port sectors.

Sonowal highlighted the vital role students play in building a society rooted in sustainability and humanity, urging them to embrace new opportunities in India’s fast-growing economy. He mentioned how India’s growth is being recognized globally, and the responsibility now lies on the shoulders of the youth to harness their talents and skills to further drive the nation’s development.

Opportunities in the Marine Sector

The minister also pointed out that although the Northeast region is landlocked, it has significant water resources that can be harnessed for trade and commerce. He encouraged students to consider career options in the marine sector, particularly in light of India’s major infrastructure development projects like the Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra, which is set to become India’s 13th major port. This project, according to Sonowal, will create a demand for trained manpower, offering excellent career opportunities for the country’s youth.
