World’s Largest Maritime Gathering to Spotlight India’s Global Maritime Vision

Maritime News, Mumbai, India : The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India, has announced the launch of India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025) — the world’s largest maritime gathering — scheduled to be held from October 27 to 31, 2025, at NESCO Grounds, Mumbai.
Held under the theme “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision”, the five-day global summit aims to project India as a strategic maritime hub, strengthen its position in the Blue Economy, and foster international cooperation for sustainable ocean development.
Top Political and Global Representation
The inaugural session on October 27 will be led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alongside Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra), Bhupendra Patel (Gujarat), Dr. Pramod Sawant (Goa), and Mohan Charan Majhi (Odisha).
Ministers from 11 countries and their respective industry delegations will participate, reflecting the global community’s growing interest in India’s maritime sector.
“India Maritime Week is not merely an event — it is a movement that will position India as a global maritime hub, promote green and sustainable shipping, and enhance global connectivity,” said Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways.
Prime Minister Modi’s Address and Global CEO Forum
A major highlight of IMW 2025 will be the address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Maritime Leaders Conclave on October 29, followed by his chairing of a Global CEO Forum featuring top executives from leading international shipping and port management companies.
This session is expected to outline India’s roadmap for maritime transformation, digitalization, and decarbonization of shipping, while reaffirming India’s commitment to “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” through maritime self-reliance.
Global Scale Participation
IMW 2025 will host over one lakh delegates, with confirmed participation from 85 countries, 350 international speakers, and 400 exhibitors. The event will feature representatives from global shipping corporations, port authorities, financial institutions, and multilateral agencies, alongside Indian states showcasing maritime investment opportunities.
Several State Ministers and Lieutenant Governors are also expected to attend, presenting the regional strengths of India’s coastline and inland waterway infrastructure.
Investment and Strategic Announcements
Over 600 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹10 lakh crore are expected to be executed during the week, spanning shipbuilding, port modernization, renewable maritime energy, and logistics corridor development.
The government anticipates that these agreements will generate 3 million new jobs, expand domestic shipbuilding capacity to 4.5 million gross tonnage, and attract investments of approximately ₹4.5 lakh crore in India’s maritime ecosystem.
Flagship Events and Conferences
The week-long event will feature 12 marquee conferences, including:
- The 4th Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS 2025)
- The QUAD Ports of the Future Conference
- Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue
- The SheEO Conference (focusing on women in maritime leadership)
- The UNESCAP Asia-Pacific Dialogue
Additionally, country-focused sessions will spotlight Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden, while state sessions will showcase opportunities across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
