IAS Amit Kumar appointed as the Private Secretary to the MoPSW

The Government of India has announced the appointment of Amit Kumar, IAS (BH:2012), as the Private Secretary to the Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. This decision, approved by the Competent Authority, places Kumar in a key administrative role at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways.

Effective from the date of assumption of his new position, or on a co-terminus basis, Kumar’s appointment will last for a period of five years, or until he either ceases to serve as Private Secretary or until further notice, whichever occurs first. In his new role, Kumar will operate at the level of Deputy Secretary.

The Government of Bihar has acknowledged the appointment and is expected to facilitate the transition process for Kumar. This move is seen as a significant development in the ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Ministry’s administrative functions.

Amit Kumar IAS (Bihar 2012) had served as Director, Information & Public Relations Department and additional charges of Managing Director (MD), Bihar Samvad Samiti and Additional Secretary, Information and Public Relations since May 2022. He earlier served as Joint Secretary General Administration Department (GAD), Bihar since May 2018, prior to it he served as District Magistrate-Lakhisarai. He has also served as MD, Building Construction Department, Bihar and Collector & DM, Madhubani  District , Bihar.

His name was added in an FIR lodged in February 2018 at Town Police Station in Lakhisarai in connection with alleged embezzlement of several crores of rupees meant for plantation of trees under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act scheme.
