Strengthens Maritime Ties with Singapore
Maritime News Changi Naval Base, Singapore : In a significant demonstration of India’s commitment to regional maritime cooperation, the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS), comprising INS Sujata, INS Shardul, and ICGS Veera, docked at Changi Naval Base, Singapore on February 6, 2025. This visit is part of the squadron’s Long-Range Training Deployment to Southeast Asia, reinforcing India’s commitment to strengthening maritime security and fostering collaboration under the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative.
Deepening Indo-Pacific Partnerships
During the port call, Dr. Shilpak Ambule, High Commissioner of India to Singapore, visited the ships and engaged with the Sea Trainees, commending the Indian Navy’s role in enhancing maritime cooperation and security in the Indo-Pacific. Senior naval officers from both India and Singapore also convened to discuss shared maritime interests and strategic cooperation.
As part of the visit, the Senior Officer of 1TS, along with the Commanding Officers of INS Sujata and ICGS Veera, held discussions with Col Rinson Chua Hon Liat, Commander, Maritime Training and Doctrine (MTDC). The dialogue centered on fostering stronger naval collaboration and enhancing operational synergies between the two nations.
Engagements and Training Activities
The visit will feature a series of joint activities designed to strengthen the operational capabilities and mutual understanding between the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). These include:
- Professional Exchanges to enhance knowledge-sharing and strategic discussions.
- Cross Training Visits to improve interoperability and technical expertise.
- Friendly Sports Fixtures to build camaraderie and foster teamwork.

This marks the second visit of the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron to Singapore within two years, following a successful port call in October 2023.
