Enhancing connectivity between India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East
Cochin : DP World, a global leader in logistics, has launched a new weekly shipping service called “SIG”. The service is initiated at its International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) in Cochin. This service is operated by ONE Line. It aims to strengthen the trade links between India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. DP World Cochin flagged off the new service by welcoming the first vessel, M.V. Safeen Prism, on 7th December 2023.
The SIG service deploys four vessels with a capacity of 2800 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). Thus offering direct connectivity between the Middle East and Southeast Asia. This new link will provide businesses in Cochin and its surrounding areas with access to key markets. Namely the Far East, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, the United States West Coast, and Canada.
The service will be operated on a port rotation between Singapore, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Dammam, Jebel Ali, Cochin, Colombo, and back to Singapore.
Commenting on the launch, Ravinder Johal, COO Ports & Terminals, DP World Subcontinent and MENA region, said: “The launch of the SIG service is a significant step forward in our efforts to enhance India’s connectivity to global trade. This pioneering initiative demonstrates our commitment to improving supply chain efficiency, establishing direct trade routes, and supporting economic growth. The SIG service will enable businesses to explore new markets across Southeast Asia and the Middle East.”
The introduction of the SIG service is expected to further strengthen DP World Cochin’s position as a preferred gateway for trade to and from South India. By offering greater connectivity to ports in Europe, the Mediterranean, China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, DP World Cochin aims to provide faster transit times, seamless connectivity, and better cost efficiencies for its customers.
This new service highlights DP World’s commitment to investing in infrastructure and technology to facilitate global trade and contribute to the economic growth of the regions it serves.
